Toby Barnes’s artistic practice draws on his experience growing up as a Thai American in Miami’s refugee communities to explore the diversity of the Asian diasporic experience. His work challenges assumptions about Asian art and representation, resisting orientalist interpretations that fetishize Asian iconography and stolen artifacts.
