About us
BIPOC Critique Group is a supportive, intellectually rigorous space for BIPOC visual artists to share their work and engage in meaningful dialogue. With the insights of ally scholars and community members, we foster cultural, intellectual, and contextual conversations that honor the depth and complexity of BIPOC experiences.

Who we are
A collective of BIPOC visual artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners dedicated to exploring the intersections of art, media, cultural studies, and social context. We are committed to fostering a space where critical feedback is rooted in respect, cultural understanding, and intellectual curiosity.

What we offer

  • Peer critiques — thoughtful, constructive feedback on works in progress.
  • Cultural and media readings — engage with texts that illuminate BIPOC histories, aesthetics, and contemporary issues.
  • Supportive community — share challenges, ideas, and inspiration with peers. Plus, invite UMass scholars, professors, and community members to critically engage across departments.

Our approach to critique

  • Inclusive and intersectional — considers cultural, historical, and social contexts.
  • Generative and respectful — strengthens ideas without erasing identity.
  • Reflective and intellectual — encourages engagement with media, theory, and creative practice.
