Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company
From the moment of its founding in 1983, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company has been about creating works that challenge ideas.
About what dance is and what it represents. About what performers look like and what they bring to the stage and the form. About what the themes and subjects of a dance performance can be. Committed to asking hard questions and tearing down walls, the company has established itself as the most innovative force in contemporary dance.
In this performance, which closes out the Fine Arts Center's spectacular fiftieth anniversary season, the company will present two pivotal works that helped establish its legacy.
History of Collage was the final work Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane created together before Zane’s death in 1988. Its remounting with current company members in 2025 as Collage Revisited is part of an ongoing legacy project that invites the company to look back in order to look forward. The piece recalls the excitement the two artists shared as they reimagined dance spectacle within the vibrant 1980s art scene, blending dance, music, and spoken word in an exploration of identity, community, and creative innovation. Story/ is an explosive work driven by the music of Franz Schubert, celebrating the past, present, and future of the company's history of movement.
Join us as we mark the end of our first half century and launch into our second with a company that is both revisiting its history and reshaping the future of its art form.
Bill T. Jones is part of the Fine Arts Center's Codemakers series.
